IKARI Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 July 2026

1. The short version

IKARI does not collect anything about you.

There is no account. There is no server. Everything you write is stored on your own phone, and it never leaves it unless you personally choose to export it and send it somewhere.

We cannot read your journal. Not because we promise not to. Because we do not have it.

2. Who we are

IKARI is provided by IKARI LLC, Portland, Oregon. Contact: support@ikariapp.org

3. What we collect

Nothing.

To be specific, because "nothing" is a strong claim:

Account or sign-inThere is none. You never give us a name, email, or phone number.
Journal entries, ratings, reflectionsStored only in your phone's app storage. Never transmitted.
Analytics or usage trackingNone. We do not know if you opened the app today.
Crash reportingNone.
Advertising or tracking identifiersNone. We do not use the advertising identifier.
LocationNever requested.
Contacts, photos, microphone, cameraNever requested.
Cookies or web trackingThe app has no web content.

The app makes no network requests of any kind during normal use.

Read-aloud uses your device's own built-in speech system to speak text that is already on your phone. On some devices that system is provided by the operating system vendor and may be processed on the device or by that vendor under their own privacy terms, not ours. We do not receive anything back from it.

4. What happens to what you write

It stays on your phone, in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read.

If you delete the app, it is deleted with it. There is no copy anywhere else and we cannot recover it for you. This is why the app has an export feature and tells you to use it.

5. Export

When you tap Back it up, the app writes a file containing your data and hands it to your phone's normal share sheet. Where it goes after that is entirely your choice and is governed by whatever service you send it to, not by us. We never see it.

6. Purchases

Payment is handled entirely by a payment processor. Your card number never reaches us and we do not store it. The processor tells us only that a subscription exists and is current.

Paying does create the one piece of information this policy cannot say we do not have: an email address and a record that somebody paid. That is separate from the app on your phone, and it is not connected to anything you write. The journal stays on your device either way. Nobody at IKARI can open your entries by looking up your payment.

7. Children and young people

IKARI is intended for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed to children under 13 and we ask you not to use it if you are under 13.

Because the app collects nothing and transmits nothing, we do not knowingly or unknowingly hold personal information about any child. There is no data for a parent to request, correct, or have deleted, because none of it reaches us. A parent who wants their child's data erased can do so by deleting the app, or by using Settings → Wipe everything inside it.

8. Safety signposts

If certain words appear in something you write, the app may show a card offering crisis or support resources.

That check happens entirely on your phone. Nothing is transmitted, no one is notified, no flag is recorded anywhere outside your own device, and no human ever sees it. It is a list of phrases compared against your text, on your phone, and nothing more.

IKARI is not a medical or mental health product. It does not diagnose, treat, or monitor anything, and it is not a substitute for professional care or for an emergency service.

9. Sharing and selling

We do not sell your data. We do not share it. We do not disclose it to advertisers, data brokers, schools, coaches, teams, or parents.

This is not a policy choice we could quietly reverse in an update. The app has no mechanism to send your writing anywhere. If that ever changes, it would require a new version of the app, a new version of this policy, and telling you.

10. Your rights

Rights to access, correct, port, or delete personal data generally apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none.

Within the app you can see everything (it is all yours, in the Log), export all of it, and erase all of it permanently.

11. Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app. If we ever begin collecting anything at all, we will say so clearly rather than burying it here.
